Restoration

We are privileged to have acquired a great piece of living history. The property we have acquired from the Coast Guard includes the tower, keepers house, oil house, boathouse, walkway from the boat house to the tower and seven acres surrounding the house and tower.

When FOWIL was organized in 2004, the property was in need of extensive renovation and initially we worked to stabilize the structures from further deterioration. In recent years, we have worked to restore the buildings to the 1906 time period. Wood Island Lighthouse is on the National Historic Register requiring special permits at each stage of renovation.

We have made great incremental progress in our restoration efforts, but we still have a long way to go to reach our vision. We hope that you will choose to join us in this effort.
