History

Over 200 years of maritime history has taken place at Wood Island Lighthouse. Thanks the tireless efforts of many volunteers, the contributions of past keeper’s and their families, and the hard work of FOWIL’s Historical Committee, a great deal of this history has been recovered from the ages. On our website you will find a few of the many stories to be told. If you’d like to learn more, then join our docents for a guided tour of the island and lighthouse or visit our web store for one of the historical booklets compiled by FOWIL members.
